Canoe Club to build new clubhouse

The Midland Canoe Club whose clubhouse is situated on the River Derwent adjacent to the Darley and Nutwood Nature Reserve has submitted plans to Derby City Council to erect a New Clubhouse to replace their existing pre-fabricated building which has been their base for over twenty years. The new clubhouse is being funded by grants from Sport England and Canoe England, and will be a showcase for other clubs to follow. The new building, which is also pre-fabricated will be site further away from the river bank to reduce the risk of it flooding. It will be free standing on pads. The club have been told that the funding will expire at the end of March 2014 and that the money must be spent within the financial year.
